Getting Your Learner’s Permit
Indiana law states that students may begin driver education when they are 15 years of age; to get a learner permit at age 15, you must show proof of enrollment in a driver education course (CDE form signed by a driving school), and pass a written test at the BMV. You must hold a permit for 180 days, no matter how old you are when you get the permit; and you must complete a full driver education program (online course and 6 hours of driving) to get a license at age 16 and 90 days. If you do not enroll in driver education, you may not get a permit until you are 16, and you may not get a license until you are 16 and 270 days old.

Behind The Wheel offers a free, optional seminar every other Saturday (and occasionally at area high schools) to help you prepare for the written learner permit test at the BMV. Had a wonderful experience with Behind The Wheel. Every time I called to schedule a drive or ask a question they were very nice to deal with. Great company to work with and trust with your teenager. Highly recommend.
